Welcome to Wholesale

Hi I’m Janis, the dyer and co-founder of Queen City Yarn.
Thank you for your interest in stocking our yarns!

Our yarns start with twelve great bases, each named for a neighborhood in the Queen City. Ten of these bases are commercially spun yarns. Berryhill and Chadbourn, are Queen City Yarn’s locally-sourced, small-batch, mill-spun yarns. They are Non-superwash and made excessively for us. We worked with the female-led team at Echoview Fiber Mill outside of Asheville, NC, to create these beautiful sport and DK weight blend of merino and alpaca yarns.

Berryhill is great for color work and feels wonderful in your hands when you use it. The alpaca provides just enough drape and always gives you a soft and cozy finished object. Berryhill is ideal for hats and sweaters, but we have recently started using it for socks, too.  We’re confident it can be worn head to toe!

Chadbourn is a relatively new base. We launched it in the fall of 2021 as a limited release at Indie Untangled the weekend of Rhinebeck and have since added it to our available bases full time.  This non-superwash marled yarn is light and airy, but the alpaca gives it a little bit of warmth you're looking for on a chilly day. And it is SUPER soft. We love the depth that the ply of black lends to this yarn.

Our commercially spun bases range from lace-weight Madison Park Mohair to single-ply South Park Super Bulky. Our fingering-weight NoDa Sock and Biddleville DK are our two most popular bases. Although each base has its unique characteristics, the superwash merino is next-to-skin soft and makes these yarns a great choice for sweaters, baby knits, shawls, socks and other accessories. Coleman our silk and linen blend is perfect for summer garments.

Our colors are inspired by our beautiful surroundings and the breathtaking places we have visited. While we dye each color to be beautiful on its own, we also strive to design coordinating colorways as well as colors that contrast beautifully with one another. We want to make choosing colors for your projects easy, whether they will be a gorgeous fade or a perfect color pop.

Our Process

Our process begins with dying beautiful hand-painted colorways. As makers, we fall in love with these skeins, but sometimes struggle to find ways to use them. We wanted to make choosing colors for your projects easy, so we have created coordinating tonals that work effortlessly with the handpaints. These coordinating tonals are great if you need a second or third color for a project. We also dye contrasting tonals that make the hand-painted colorways really pop - perfect for color work or a striped project.

Getting Started with Wholesale

Local yarn stores are SO important to the continued growth of our creative community. Queen City Yarn would not exist today if Christen and I had not met at a knitting group hosted by one of our local stores.

That's why when it comes to selling wholesale we want to start you off on the right foot!

We've put together a wholesale starter pack for this reason. It's a well-rounded mix of our best sellers and tried and true colors. Want to build your collection out more? We've put together a supplementary collection of more fan-favorites, sure to make your in-store display pop.

We know the importance of keeping your stock fresh, seasonally up-to-date and inspiring for your customers. We've crafted packs to make it easy to add diversity to your shop. Want a custom color? We do that too.
