Our Story

The colorful, cat-loving, yarn-dying enthusiast behind Queen City Yarn.

After spending Undergrad and Grad School at Savannah College of Art and Design, I found my day job didn’t offer the creative inspiration I craved. Knitting became my outlet, then my side hustle, and is now my full-time venture.  Queen City Yarn was established in 2016 and today it is a vibrant dye studio located in Charlotte, NC. Our small but mighty team hand-dyes every skein of yarn and we strive to offer beautiful colors on bases your customers will love.

Queen City Yarn began with a focus on beautiful handpaints paired with vibrant tonals. We then expanded our offering to include specialty bases and they have quickly become the center of our business. We know you will love these unique bases as much as we do.

Latta is our sport weight, 100% Non Superwash Shaniko, Merino/Rambouillet wool. Latta comes in multiple skein sizes, from Petites to Sweater Skeins, making it the perfect choice for a contrast color or as the main color of your project. Our most popular base, though, is Coleman. This is a truly special 65% Silk and 35% Linen blend that is as perfect for hot and humid summers as it is for layering with other pieces in cooler months.

You can still find us dyeing our original bases ranging from fingering weight NoDa Sock to our fuzzy alpaca/silk blends, Bernice and Chantilly.

Our colors are inspired by our beautiful surroundings and the breathtaking places we have visited. While we dye each color to be beautiful on its own, we also strive to design coordinating colorways as well as colors that contrast beautifully with one another. We want to make choosing colors for your projects easy, whether they will be a gorgeous fade or a perfect color pop.
